The Tates – ‘Water’ | Song of the Week

The Tates are a five piece collective from Wales and this is their new single ‘Water’. These guys have been rapidly gaining steam since the release of their debut ‘Electric Girl’, having received support from the likes of Huw Stephens and BBC Introducing, as well as being A-Listed on BBC Radio Wales. ‘Water’ looks set to continue the momentum for this emerging band, and well, there must be something in the water indeed.

This Indie-Pop tune features everything you could expect from the genre: bouncy basslines, catchy guitar riffs and soaring melodies in the background, but The Tates seem to add a little something extra to ‘Water’. A sudden influx of chugging guitars floods the chorus which adds a surprising layer of texture to the mix – converting the track from a flowing babbling brook into a crashing stream full of urgency. It certainly helps the track stand out from the rest, and it’s quite admirable to see a young band throw a couple surprises into their sound.

‘Water’ is a great tune from The Tates, and one that offers up something that strays a little away from the norm. This is another act to keep an eye on for sure.
