“Knowledge, is knowing a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom, is knowing not to put it in a fruit salad.” | An Interview With Farebrother

Last month we stumbled upon Farebrother’s latest single “I’d Be The Worst” and really liked it. It’s bluesy, gritty riff surrounded our minds with an atmosphere full of shining lights and dancing vibes that definitely cemented our desire to feature the Bath quartet once again. That time has come as we’ve had an interview with them! The hugest of thank you’s to them for doing this. Especially for delivering that serious nugget of wisdom at the end.

Hey Farebrother, how’s it going? It’s very good thank you, thanks very much for having us.

First of all, what got you into making music? We all have been playing in bands/making our own music from the same ages really, with veeeery different influences to begin with haha, and they still feed into how and what we play now.

The thing that mainly got us all into the positions we’re in now, was just having those mutual friends around us that shared the interests. It never felt like making music was a particularly ‘out there’ thing to do, so it wasn’t hard finding people that wanted to do it with you.

What can you tell us about your latest single “I’d Be The Worst?” “I’d Be The Worst” is still in a collection of songs that were pretty quick to emerge once we started playing together as ‘Farebrother’. So for us, it’s a song that we finally had the chance to do right, and give it justice on record. It was helpful us knowing it so well going into the studio with it, because we could just tear it apart completely without any worry of how to put it back together again.

How does it feel to get underway in the music industry now that the third single is out? It’s exciting for one, because there’s so much ahead of us and so much to look forward to. But really, it’s just very gratifying being able to put something out there for people, and see them enjoy it and respond to it so well.

Can we expect to hear more from you this year? Perhaps soon? Most definitely. We have more singles lined up for the coming year so it shouldn’t be short of new music. But for now, the “I’d be The Worst” campaign is still alive so you can expect some more things to come from that soon!

What were some of your favourite records of last year?

  • Tom: Antisocialites – Alvvays
  • Owen: Bad Contestant – Matt Maltese
  • Michael: Finally Free – Daniel Romano
  • Matt: Noonday Dream – Ben Howard

Finally, if you could close out this interview with one final thought, what would it be? Knowledge, is knowing a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom, is knowing not to put it in a fruit salad.
